(dramatic music) - Season three ended, and Nash headed off to Paris to open up a new branch of Nash and Sons.

- Oh, never better.
I arrived this morning to be greeted by a most pleasant surprise.
(mysterious music) - Bonjour, Eliza.
I think whether they'd like to admit it or not, they're a great team.
What the hell have you done?
But they wind each other up.
I leave you a business that is thriving and come back to find it barely surviving.
He's as stubborn as she is, I think.
- There's really no need for you to be here.
- It is my name above the door and my reputation that's being damaged.
So I'm staying in London until the ship is back on course.
- Stubbornness is one of her greatest qualities, (door slams) (papers flutter) but that doesn't help her when she's working in an office full of people because at the end of the day, she's, well, she's a maverick, not a manager.
- I think season four expands the world of Eliza and the people who come into her world.
- We have visitors.
- Yes, thank you, Clarence.
- Nash and Sons allowed her to meet lots of new people.
- So sorry to turn up without an appointment.
- And she's always looking to get one step ahead, so the more people she meets, the more opportunity she has, the more avenues of investigation.
(door squeaks) - Someone's coming.
- This way.
(boots tap) - Eliza and Nash get into a lot of trouble.
That's their thing.
That's their MO.
And their very happy place to be.
And we have more crime, more drama, more energy.
Are you sure this is the way out?
- Not remotely.
- [Felix] More fantastic storylines.
- I thought you said you'd been here before.
- No, I said I've ridden past in a carriage.
(gun blasts) - Working at Nash and Sons definitely gave her some credibility.
Much needed credibility.
(laughs) - And I think he's definitely learned from working with Eliza that there are different ways to get different results.
And I think we've seen a softening of Nash and a development in the relationship between the two of them.
- A talented detective with the utmost integrity.
- What?
- They were the words I used to describe you to Bracewood.

MASTERPIECE on PBS has announced that Kate Phillips (Wolf Hall, The Crown) will return as Miss Eliza Scarlet for a fifth season of investigations, and the series will be retitled, Miss Scarlet. Stuart Martin, who played William “The Duke” Wellington in the previous four seasons will not return for Season 5.
