We’re thrilled to announce that Dan Egan’s “The Death and Life of the Great Lakes” — an epic portrait of the Great Lakes and the perils they face — is our April pick for the PBS NewsHour-New York Times book club, “Now Read This.”

“Dipping into this book was like opening the secret diary of a mercurial and mysterious parent,” Rob Moor writes in his review of the book in the New York Times. “Egan, a two-time Pulitzer finalist, nimbly splices together history, science, reporting and personal experiences into a taut and cautiously hopeful narrative” of the damage done to the Great Lakes — and how to stop it.

In the coming days, we’ll post discussion questions for the book, an annotated page and advice for writers from Dan Egan. At the end of the month, Egan will take your questions on the NewsHour broadcast.
