Moqueca and Pão de Queijo
I love my family, so when my four children grew up and I became an empty nester, I knew it was time for an adventure. Tomio, my oldest, was studying in Brazil, so I up and moved to be near him. I spoke no Portuguese and I relied on Tomio to help me until I learned the new language. In Brazil, I shared my family’s recipes with my new Brazilian friends, and they taught me their own family favorites in return. Moqueca infuses so many of the flavors characteristic to Brazil. This chowder, made with a massive selection of regional seafood, is unlike any I’ve ever had. Don’t skip the pão de queijo to serve alongside it! It is rich in both flavor and history. Made with the type of flour available to the earliest people of Brazil, this cheese bread is treasured by all.
